Delta State Police Command has disclosed that it arrested a total of 85 suspects for various crimes from April 29 to June 29 and also rescued 18 kidnap victims within the same period.

Yemi Onyeniyi, the State Commissioner of Police (CP)), made the disclosure in Asaba, on Monday, during the Command’s second quarter press briefing, highlighting the achievements of the Command for the period under review.

Onyeniyi stated that out of the arrested persons, four were for kidnapping, five for murder and 76 for cultism.

He said that cultism suspects charged to court were 46, cultism suspects under investigation 30, drugs suspects seven, and drug suspects charged to court were five.

He disclosed that a total of 32 firearms recovered,  including  three AK-47 Rifles, four Pump-Action Guns, two  Beretta Pistols,  two Locally Made Revolver Pistols and three Locally Made Cut-to-Size Firearms, 17 Locally Made Single-Barrel Gun,  one  Double-Barrel Locally Made Pistols.

He recealed that 197 rounds of Live AK-47 Ammunition and 219 Live Cartridges were recovered while Drugs and Controlled Substances were also recovered.

“The Command has continued to intensify intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies aimed at combating kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug trafficking and other violent crimes across the State.

“Through strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets, sustained raids on criminal hideouts, enhanced stop-and-search operations, and improved intelligence gathering, the command has recorded significant successes in the fight against crime during the period under review”, CP explained.

He assured all residents that the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to make Delta State hostile to criminals and safe for law-abiding citizens.

“We encourage members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police, as security remains a collective responsibility”, he concluded.
