The Bauchi State Police Command, has arrested a 50-year-old man, Muhammadu Audu, over the alleged sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl in Bulkachuwa, Katagum Local Government Area of the State.
In a press statement signed by the command spokesman, Nafiu Habib and made available to journalists in Bauchi
According to the police, the case was reported at the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on June 15, 2026 at about 5:00 p.m, where the complainant said that on June 14, 2026 at about 5:00 p.m., Audu, who lives at the same address, lured his daughter while she was hawking soya bean cake.
The police said the suspect allegedly took the minor to an uncompleted building under the pretext of buying from her and committed the offence.
The press release disclosed that the victim sustained injuries and was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre, Bulkachuwa, for medical examination and treatment.
It said during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the act on more than one occasion.
He also admitted to threatening the child with a knife to prevent her from informing her parents, the statement said.
SP Habib said the suspect is currently in custody and has been remanded for investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act, and has directed a thorough investigation into the matter.
The CP restated the Command’s zero tolerance policy on sexual violence and crimes against children.
“The Command assures the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted. We remain committed to protecting women and children across Bauchi State,” CP Aliyu said.
The press release urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any form of child abuse to the nearest police station.
