Highlighting a crisis that has breached local containment, Enoch Adeboye, pastor and General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has urgently appealed to the United States and Western allies for immediate international military and strategic support to help Nigeria combat a rapidly spreading wave of terrorism and violent extremism. Speaking at a high-profile diplomatic and religious gala in the U.S. capital, the influential cleric warned that the insurgency has evolved from a regional conflict into a nationwide threat that now vastly exceeds the capacity of Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
“Terrorism is now at my doorstep,” Adeboye stated during his address. “The scale of the challenge has exceeded the capacity of local institutions acting alone. Let the U.S. and other Western nations deepen their support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.”
The cleric emphasised that the crisis has become a deeply personal concern for himself and millions of Nigerians. He noted that the threat has rapidly spread beyond areas traditionally associated with insurgent attacks, necessitating a coordinated international response. Enhanced cooperation between Nigeria, the United States, and other friendly global powers, he argued, is vital to neutralising violent extremist groups.
The remarks were delivered at the inaugural U.S.-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala, held at the Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC/U.S. Capitol under the theme, “Thank You, America. Please Do More.” The event was organised by the Save Nigeria Group USA in partnership with the U.S.-Nigeria Civil Society Coalition.
The gala served as a strategic platform for international dialogue, drawing a diverse crowd of religious leaders, human rights advocates, and American policymakers. Members of both the Nigerian diaspora and the American community also attended, alongside Nigerian diplomats, to discuss potential pathways toward stabilising the West African nation.
Adeboye travelled to the U.S. capital for the gala immediately following his leadership of the RCCG Annual Convention in America, which recently concluded in Dallas, Texas. His remarks add to growing calls from civil society organisations and religious bodies urging the international community to provide advanced intelligence, strategic logistics, and robust security assistance to help Nigeria restore domestic peace.
