… As IGP Calls for enhanced security collaboration

The Nigeria Police Force has officially commissioned its first permanent state command headquarters in Taraba since the state’s creation in 1991.

This came as the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, called for more collaboration with the state for effective policing.

Speaking at the commissioning exercise in Yorro LGA of the state, IGP Disu, represented by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastien, noted that the new state-of-the-art facility will now serve as a central hub for coordinating security operations, replacing decades of reliance on temporary office arrangements.

He stated that the project, which was realised through a collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Government, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), addresses a long-standing deficit in the state’s security apparatus.

He said, “the completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991.

“However, it is better late than never. This project stands as a testament to the determination of the Nigeria Police Force leadership to leave a lasting legacy.”

The IGP also urged officers to prioritise the maintenance of the new facility, labelling it an institutional asset that must be preserved for future generations.

He also reiterated the necessity of intelligence-led policing, calling on the public, traditional leaders, and civil society to continue providing the timely information required to prevent criminal activity.

The executive secretary of the NPTF, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, who also spoke, reiterated the federal government’s commitment to security.

He added that the facility is part of a broader “Renewed Hope Agenda” to modernise security infrastructure nationwide.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, who commissioned the edifice, also reaffirmed the state’s dedication to supporting security agencies.

Represented at the ceremony by the Commandant of the Taraba Marshall, CP Abeh Cyril (rtd), he pointed out that no society can attain its full potential without a secure environment.

He pledged that his administration will continue to prioritise security of lives and properties.

In addition to the new state headquarters, Governor Kefas also commissioned a modern divisional police headquarters in Pantinapo.
