Woodrow Communications has been named Africa Agency of the Year 2026 by PRovoke Media, a leading global authority on the public relations and communications industry, in recognition of the firm’s rapid expansion and growing influence across the continent.

The award highlights Woodrow’s unique Africa-first approach, strong regional presence, and its role in handling some of the continent’s most challenging communications, policy, reputation, and stakeholder engagement assignments.

In announcing the recognition, PRovoke Media described Woodrow as a communications firm built specifically for Africa’s realities, combining local expertise with cross-border capabilities to deliver strategic advice on complex issues shaping the continent’s political and economic landscape.

Founded five years ago by communications strategist Charlie Tarr, Woodrow has grown from its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, into a multi-market consultancy with teams and partners across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, and South Africa. The company now delivers communications support in 13 African countries.

The recognition comes amid a period of strong growth for the firm. Since 2024, Woodrow has more than doubled its revenue, expanded into additional African markets, and managed campaigns and assignments that reached global audiences of more than 70 million people across multiple countries.

Speaking on the achievement, Charlie Tarr, founder and chief executive officer, said the award validates the company’s belief that world-class communications expertise can be developed and delivered from Africa.

“When we started Woodrow, we believed Africa deserved communications advice built for Africa’s realities, not imported templates. This recognition is a testament to our people, our clients, and our belief that world-class strategic communications can be built from the continent and compete with the very best anywhere in the world,” Tarr said.

According to him, the award represents another milestone in the company’s growth journey rather than a final destination.

Also commenting, David Karega, head of East and Southern Africa, credited the recognition to the firm’s employees and clients who entrusted it with high-profile assignments.

“This award belongs to the team and the clients who have trusted us with some of their most important moments. From major launches and investment announcements to reputation management, policy engagement and crisis situations, we have had the privilege of helping them achieve influence,” Karega said.

Woodrow’s growth has been driven by its local-first operating model, which combines deep understanding of local markets with regional coordination and strategic advisory services. The firm currently supports organisations including AGRA, Bupa Global, BIC, international foundations, investors, and development institutions operating across Africa.

Industry analysts say the recognition reflects the growing maturity of Africa’s communications sector, where locally built agencies are increasingly competing with global firms for major mandates and strategic advisory roles.

Looking ahead, Woodrow said it plans to invest further in digital influence, audience intelligence, and integrated stakeholder engagement capabilities as organisations across Africa seek more sophisticated ways to connect with governments, investors, customers, and communities.

Tarr noted that Africa remains central to the company’s long-term vision, citing opportunities emerging across technology, investment, food systems, climate action, and economic transformation.

He said the company remains committed to helping clients shape important conversations, build influence, and contribute to the continent’s development and growth.
