In a major structural shake-up, Nnamdi Kanu  IPOB leader Mazi has dissolved the group’s long-standing 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS), citing a grave “dereliction of duty” over the abandonment of detained members. Kanu immediately inaugurated a new 27-member 4th Administration, appointing US-based  Chris Nwaogu Mazi as the new administrative head to rebuild public confidence and restore organizational discipline, while retaining Emma Powerful comrade as the movement’s chief spokesperson.

The restructuring, announced in a statement signed by Powerful on behalf of Kanu, takes immediate effect. Nwaogu will now oversee the day-to-day administration, coordination, and management of IPOB’s global affairs under Kanu’s direct authority.

According to the statement, the dissolution of the Chika Edoziem-led 3rd Administration which had been in place since March 2017 followed a careful assessment of its performance. Kanu stated that the outgoing leadership fell short of its fundamental obligations during a critical period for the Biafra restoration project.

Specifically, the previous administration was accused of a “dereliction of duty” regarding member welfare. Kanu highlighted the alleged failure to prioritize the liberation and care of hundreds of detained Biafrans, particularly those held for years without trial at the Wawa Military Barracks in Niger State.

“Many of these men and women suffered unimaginable hardship. Some died in detention,” the statement noted. “No movement claiming to stand for justice can neglect those who paid the highest price for their commitment.”

Furthermore, the leadership was blamed for internal disputes, a lack of discipline, and failing to protect the integrity of the movement, which allegedly led to deepened divisions and a drop in public confidence.

Kanu emphasized that the shake-up was an act of organizational renewal rather than vengeance. The incoming 4th Administration has been mandated to rebuild confidence, restore unity, and re-establish a culture of accountability.

A primary focus for Nwaogu’s team will be recovering and strengthening authentic communication channels, which Kanu claimed were compromised under the previous leadership, creating confusion and allowing hostile actors to manipulate narratives. The DOS was originally established in 2012 as the administrative arm of IPOB.

The newly inaugurated 27-member executive includes:

  • Mazi Chris Nwaogu (USA) — Head of Directorate of State
  • Mazi Solomon Egbo — Deputy Head of Directorate of State
  • Nwada Ogwu Nnennaya Anya I — Head of Finance and Budget Planning
