The Katsina State Government has intensified efforts to mobilise communities and key stakeholders for climate action ahead of the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT), a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, climate resilience, green growth and greater public awareness of climate change issues.
The tour, scheduled to be held in Katsina State in July 2026, is designed to take climate change awareness beyond policy discussions and conference halls to the grassroots, reaching communities, markets, schools, farmers, women and young people across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
According to the statement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has expressed the state’s readiness to host the programme, describing climate change as a major concern, particularly for Katsina where agriculture remains the backbone of the economy.
The governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to supporting initiatives that promote environmental protection, sustainable farming practices, tree planting and community participation in addressing climate-related challenges.
Governor Radda noted that the increasing impact of climate change on agricultural productivity and livelihoods underscores the need for greater public awareness and practical solutions that will help communities adapt to changing environmental conditions.
The Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour seeks to encourage citizens to embrace climate-smart practices while supporting sustainable development efforts across the country.
Speaking on preparations for the event, the Katsina State Focal Person for REHCCAT, Hon. Suleiman Ribadu, disclosed that a major town hall meeting would be organised in Katsina to bring together government officials, development partners, traditional rulers, farmers, youth groups, women organisations and other stakeholders.
According to him, the forum will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss practical solutions to climate challenges affecting local communities and identify pathways for building resilience against environmental threats.
Ribadu commended Governor Radda for embracing the initiative and agreeing to host the programme in Katsina State, describing the governor’s support as a demonstration of his commitment to policies and programmes that improve the well-being of citizens.
He added that preparations for the event were already in top gear to ensure a successful outing, stressing that the awareness campaign would help strengthen public understanding of climate change and promote actions that support a safer and more sustainable environment for future generations.
The organisers expect the programme to attract a broad spectrum of participants and serve as a platform for fostering collaboration among government institutions, civil society groups, development partners and local communities in addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change.
