Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra state governor, says a cleaner environment is essential for protecting lives, preventing diseases and securing a healthier future for present and future generations.

Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, said this in a message to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day, themed ‘Climate Action.’

World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to promote environmental awareness and encourage actions that support environmental protection globally.

Soludo called on residents of the state to adopt environmentally friendly practices that promote healthy living, protect natural resources and safeguard the well-being of future generations.

According to her, a healthy environment remains fundamental to the overall well-being, productivity and quality of life of individuals and communities across the state.

“World Environment Day reminds us that healthy living equally begins with a healthy environment.

“The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the communities we live in are all connected to the decisions we make every day.

“A cleaner environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about protecting lives, preventing diseases and creating a healthier future for us and, most importantly, for our children,” she said.

Soludo urged households, schools, markets and communities across Anambra to embrace simple but impactful environmental practices that support public health and environmental sustainability.

She listed the practices to include proper waste disposal, maintaining clean surroundings, tree planting and cultivating environmental consciousness among residents, especially children and young people.

Soludo reaffirmed the commitment of her Healthy Living Initiative to promoting a culture where personal health, environmental hygiene and sustainable living practices complement one another.

She urged residents to work collectively toward building a greener, cleaner, smarter and healthier Anambra through responsible environmental stewardship and community participation.
