The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has expanded its digital tax compliance network by accrediting Afri Invoice as an official Access Point Provider (APP), a move aimed at accelerating the country’s transition to mandatory electronic invoicing and widening tax transparency across the economy.

The accreditation comes weeks before the next phase of the government’s e-invoicing rollout and allows Afri Invoice to connect businesses directly to the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), the centralized platform created to validate and monitor commercial transactions in real time.

The development strengthens the infrastructure supporting Nigeria’s digital tax reforms as authorities seek to reduce tax evasion, improve revenue collection and capture a larger share of economic activity through technology-driven compliance systems.

Afri Invoice’s approval follows its recent licensing as a Systems Integrator, giving the company dual accreditation within the national e-invoicing ecosystem. The combined approvals enable the fintech firm to integrate corporate systems with the NRS platform while also validating, digitally signing and transmitting invoices to government servers.

The MBS platform serves as the backbone of Nigeria’s e-invoicing framework. It records business-to-business and business-to-government transactions at the point of sale, creating a real-time audit trail for tax authorities.

Large taxpayers have already begun transitioning to the platform, while the NRS is preparing to extend compliance requirements to a broader pool of medium-sized and small businesses.

Industry analysts say accredited providers will play a critical role in helping companies navigate the technical requirements of the new regime. Direct connections to government systems require strict security and interoperability standards, making Access Point Providers essential gateways between businesses and tax authorities.

Speaking on the accreditation, Mark Odenore, Afri Invoice founder, described the approval as a major milestone for the company and the wider business community.

He said the company intends to simplify compliance for businesses by reducing the technical and financial barriers associated with the transition to electronic invoicing.

“This accreditation represents one of the most significant moments in Afri Invoice’s journey. For years, we have believed that compliance should not be a financial burden that only large corporations can afford. The NRS has handed us the opportunity to be the bridge connecting Nigeria’s entire business community to this new era. We view e-invoicing as a launchpad for modern corporate efficiency, transparency, and growth,” Odenore stated.

According to the company, its platform automates invoice submission, digital signing and compliance reporting while integrating with existing enterprise resource planning systems used by businesses.

Afri Invoice said its infrastructure was built to international security and interoperability standards, including alignment with the PEPPOL framework, positioning it to support future cross-border digital invoicing initiatives.

The accreditation highlights the NRS’s broader strategy of building a network of trusted technology partners to support what is expected to become one of Africa’s largest real-time digital tax compliance systems.

As the July compliance deadline approaches, businesses are expected to accelerate onboarding efforts to avoid disruptions and ensure alignment with Nigeria’s evolving digital tax requirements.
