A private security guard employed by a Minna-based businessman has allegedly disappeared with his employer’s two six-year-old children, identified as Umar and Anastasia, raising fears of a possible kidnapping.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon when Danjuma, the children’s father, discovered that both his children and the security guard were missing.
Sources said the security guard, identified as Sani Abdulrahman, allegedly took the children out on a motorcycle under the pretext of celebrating the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
According to reports, the businessman was away from home when the suspect left with the children.
Concerned by their prolonged absence, family members launched a search and visited several hospitals across Minna metropolis, fearing they might have been involved in an accident.
However, the situation took a disturbing turn when the family allegedly received a telephone call later that evening from individuals claiming to be in the Erena Forest in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The callers reportedly informed the family that the children were in their custody and demanded ransom for their release.
Speaking on the incident, Danjuma appealed to the Niger State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of his children.
He also called on members of the public to support the family with prayers and any useful information that could assist in locating the children.
Confirming the development, Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, said the incident occurred at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
According to him, the suspect had claimed he was taking the children out to celebrate the Sallah festivities within the town, but failed to return with them.
Abiodun said police investigations had commenced, and efforts were ongoing to locate the children and apprehend those responsible.
“We are investigating the matter and taking necessary steps to ensure the children are rescued safely,” he said.
