The Association of Former Lawmakers of the Enugu State House of Assembly (AELESHA), comprising former Speakers and principal officers of the legislature, has congratulated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on the occasion of his third anniversary in office, commending what it described as his remarkable achievements and transformative leadership.
The commendation was contained in a resolution reached during the association’s plenary session held on June 3, 2026, at the Enugu Sports Club.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the former lawmakers praised Governor Mbah for the significant progress recorded across critical sectors of the state’s economy and infrastructure within three years of his administration.
According to the group, the governor’s achievements are particularly evident in the transportation sector through the establishment of Enugu Air, the development of modern bus terminals, extensive urban road networks, and the construction of strategic gateway roads across the state.
AELESHA also lauded the administration’s investment in education and healthcare, highlighting the construction of more than 260 ward-based Smart Schools and Type II Primary Healthcare Centres.
The association expressed optimism that the initiatives would substantially reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for residents in the near future.
The group further cited other landmark projects, both completed and ongoing, such as the New Enugu Smart City, the International Conference Centre, and the revitalisation of the long-abandoned Presidential Hotel, Enugu, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to economic growth and urban renewal.
It also commended the governor’s decision to allocate more than 33 percent of the state’s budget to education, describing it as a bold investment in human capital development.
The former lawmakers equally praised the commissioning of the Haier Factory, a $20 million assembly plant dedicated to the production of laptops, smartphones, and related spare parts, noting that the project would stimulate industrialisation, create jobs, and attract further investment to the state.
On youth empowerment, the association applauded the administration’s 042 Ride Taxi Scheme, stating that the initiative would provide sustainable employment opportunities for young people while strengthening public transportation services across Enugu State.
AELESHA also expressed satisfaction with Governor Mbah’s support for Rangers International Football Club, noting that the club occupies a unique place in the history and identity of the Igbo people.
“Rangers is far more than a football club. It symbolises the Igbo war experience, resilience, indomitable spirit, and the phoenix-like ability to rise stronger from adversity,” the group stated.
According to the former lawmakers, Rangers embodies the Igbo philosophy of perseverance and determination, values that were demonstrated during the Nigerian Civil War.
They noted that beyond football, the name “Rangers” evokes memories of courage, ingenuity, resilience, and collective identity, making the club an enduring symbol of Igbo heritage and pride.
The association concluded by wishing Governor Mbah continued success in his efforts to transform Enugu State and improve the welfare of its citizens.
