The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Suleiman Balarabe, recently joined the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’idu Ahmad, and heads of beneficiary teacher-training institutions at the official handover ceremony of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and instructional materials under a Japanese Government-supported education project.
A statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor’s media aide, Sani Lawal Maqarphy, said the ceremony took place at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja.
The event was organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA), the African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA), and the Government of Japan.
The project, titled ‘Capacity-Building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa,’ is designed to strengthen teacher education through the provision of ICT equipment and learning materials to selected federal and state colleges of education across Nigeria.
According to the statement, the intervention is expected to enhance digital teaching and learning, improve teachers’ professional capacity, and expand inclusive access to quality education, particularly for girls and other vulnerable learners.
The programme also provides mobile-based learning support for female teachers and school leaders, accelerated learning opportunities for out-of-school children, psychosocial support services, life-skills training, and the creation of safe learning environments.
Balarabe attended the ceremony alongside the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkadir; the Director of ICT, Ayotunde Alaba Fadele, and Abubakar Hassan.
Education stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute significantly to improving teaching standards and promoting equitable access to education across the country.
