The Makeup Fair Series (TMUFS) continues to solidify its position as a leading force in the African beauty industry. Delivering more than just events, it creates platforms where talent is discovered, refined and elevated at scale.
At the center of this impact is the Beauty Face Off Competition (BFOC), TMUFS’ flagship talent development initiative dedicated to emerging and mid-level makeup artists. Designed as a high-performance, high-visibility platform, BFOC goes beyond traditional competition by testing technical ability, creative direction and execution while connecting artists to real industry opportunities.
At the 18th Lagos Makeup Fair (LMUF18), BFOC was launched under the theme “Lagos Glam,” a bold celebration of the city’s vibrant and influential beauty culture. From a pool of applicants, contestants were selected through a rigorous vetting process and ultimately competed live on stage. Within a 45-minute timeframe, contestants delivered compelling looks that demonstrated technical precision, cultural relevance and strong creative storytelling capturing the essence of Lagos as a trendsetting beauty capital.
BFOC’s strength lies in its strategic positioning within the beauty ecosystem. It serves as a critical bridge between emerging talent and the wider industry, creating an environment where artists gain real-time visibility before audiences, professionals and potential collaborators. This ability to convert exposure into tangible opportunity is what distinguishes the platform.
The competition also proved to be a major engagement highlight at LMUF18, drawing significant attention and sustained audience interaction. Attendees were actively immersed in the live transformation process, creating a dynamic experience where artistry, performance and product usage intersected seamlessly.
Industry collaboration remained a key pillar of the competition, with participating brands including Nuban Beauty, Msmetics, Reng Beauty Cosmetics, Paula Beauty, Y-Glam Cosmetics, Niya Beauty, Lvh Beauty, Milani Cosmetics, Makeupmaven NYNG, Dhoopy Dhoopy, amongst others, supported this edition. Their involvement not only reinforced industry confidence in the platform but also strengthened the connection between brands and emerging talent.
The competition concluded with standout performances from the finalists. Habikes Glam emerged as the winner, followed by Pholas Glam as first runner-up and J.P Beauty Atelier as second runner-up, each recognized for their creativity, technical execution and interpretation of the theme.
For brands and sponsors, BFOC presents a strategic opportunity to engage directly with a highly targeted and responsive beauty audience, while aligning with the next generation of industry professionals. For artists, it remains a defining platform where skill meets visibility and potential is transformed into progress.
Through initiatives like BFOC, TMUFS continues to demonstrate a clear and consistent commitment to shaping the future of the beauty industry, building platforms that not only showcase talent but actively develop it, connect it and position it for long-term success.
