Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Former Kano State Deputy Governor, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The development, announced on Friday, signals a major step in the party’s preparations as political activities gather momentum in Kano State.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo is expected to be formally affirmed alongside other candidates of the party during a scheduled NDC affirmation ceremony.
According to the statement, the exercise will feature the ratification of candidates for the State House of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship and presidential elections.
Gwarzo, a seasoned politician and grassroots mobiliser, is entering the governorship race with decades of experience in public service and administration.
He previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was twice elected chairman of a local government area in the state. He also served as commissioner in four ministries, where he played key roles in policy implementation and governance.
The former deputy governor also served as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission and later chaired the Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora.
Political observers believe his emergence could strengthen the NDC’s presence in Kano as parties intensify realignments and preparations ahead of the elections.
The statement described Gwarzo as one of Kano’s most experienced political figures, citing his long-standing involvement in grassroots politics and public administration.
