…As ADC clears 513 Reps, 109 senatorial, 80 governorship aspirants

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, and economist , Mohammed Hayatu-Deen will on Monday know their fate as the African Democratic Congress  (ADC) conducts its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general election.

The three contenders for the party’s presidential ticket have submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms and successfully passed the party’s screening process.

The ADC did not zone its presidential ticket to either the North or the South, opting instead to allow the aspirants test their popularity and political strength at the primary.

Amaechi had earlier said he would serve only one term if elected president and would support the return of power to the North thereafter.

However, Atiku and Hayatu-Deen are yet to publicly state their positions on tenure.

Meanwhile, top party officials told our correspondent that the ADC has a total of 705 aspirants for various elective positions.

A breakdown of the figure shows that the party has three presidential aspirants, 109 senatorial aspirants, 513 House of Representatives aspirants and 80 governorship aspirants.

The party’s presidential primary is scheduled to hold on Monday, May 25, 2026.
