In a determined effort to reposition the nation’s education system in line with its One Education initiatives, Sterling Bank Plc at the weekend, commissioned a co-branded verve /identity card which will serve as access control system and identity management solution for staff and students of the Benue State University Makurdi.

It will also serve as payment debit card for fee payments, ATM withdrawals and online transactions.

Speaking at the launch held in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, the Bank’s Executive Director; Commercial and Institution Banking, Lanre Adesanya assured that the Bank will continue to expand its frontiers in education finance and partner any institution in the provision of adequate facilities in furtherance of its core purpose of enriching lives.

Adesanya who was represented by the Bank’s Group Head, Strategy and Communications, Shina Atilola explains how the card works: “The card serves as a ‘combo’ e-solution for the staff and students. It serves as the primary form of identification within and outside the campus environment for students and staff of the university. The high quality of the card prevents ease of forgery outside of the authorized system; helps tighten security in the school as access is granted to only authorized individuals.”

Atilola reiterated the Bank’s commitment to offering ingenious solutions to the Education sector via its One Education platform with the provision of Edu-tablets, financial literacy materials and training amongst others.

The Benue State Governor Chief Samuel Ortom, who was represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Investment Simon Tersoo Kpelai, commended Sterling Bank for its collaboration with the university and for its contributions to the growth of the education sector in the country.

The Governor who assured that the government is willing to partner the private sector operators to develop the education sector in the state called on other financial institutions in the country to emulate Sterling Bank’s pioneering role in the development of the sector adding that the state is open to further programmes that would benefit it and its parastatals.

The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Charity Angya expressed her excitement and communicated her appreciation to the Bank. With the card, she was optimistic that the issue of exam malpractices will become a thing of the past.

In his short remark, the Vice Chancellor designate, Prof. Msugh Kembe also lauded the initiative and called on other corporate organizations to support the institution further.
