President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
Chris Ugwuegbulem, Information Officer in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said in a statement that the appointment recognises Fadewa’s exceptional service record, strategic expertise, and contributions to the national security architecture.
Commitment to internal security coordination
The appointment, contained in a circular signed by Secretary to the government of the federation,, Sen. George Akume, and issued by the permanent secretary of the General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security.
The move aims to enhance intelligence-driven operations and deepen inter-agency collaboration to address emerging security threats across the country.
A career in intelligence and strategy
Fadewa is a highly decorated retired general with over three decades of military and intelligence service. His experience spans national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.

Between 2015 and 2021, he served as principal general staff officer to the national security adviser. In this role, he was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework.
Establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre
Fadewa spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser. This integrated platform brought together the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the armed forces to improve strategic response coordination.
Following his retirement, Fadewa served as a senior research fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja. He provided leadership on policing and national security reform, authoring the monograph “Policing and National Security in Nigeria”.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment would enhance efforts toward a more secure Nigeria through improved intelligence integration and proactive risk management.
