Tetracore Energy Group (TEG) has secured preliminary electricity generation and distribution licences from the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission, marking a new phase in the company’s expansion across Nigeria’s gas-to-power sector.

The licences were presented to Tetracore Energy Group’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Olakunle Williams, by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, during the second day of the Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026.

The summit, themed “Bold Transitions: Building a Legacy for Sustainable Futures,” took place from May 6 to May 7 in Lafia and brought together government officials, investors and business leaders to discuss infrastructure development and investment opportunities in the state.

Speaking during the presentation, Governor Sule said Tetracore had already started preliminary project development activities. He said this reflected the state government’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver long-term energy projects that would support industrial growth in Nasarawa State.

The licences will allow Tetracore to move forward with plans for a gas-fired Independent Power Project (IPP) aimed at meeting increasing electricity demand in industrial and commercial areas across the state. The project is part of the company’s wider strategy of combining gas supply, power generation and electricity distribution within one integrated system.

The development follows the recent commissioning of the first phase of Tetracore’s 100MW gas-fired Independent Power Project in Atakabo, Ogun State. The company said the new Nasarawa project would strengthen its position within Nigeria’s gas-to-power market.

According to Tetracore, the Nasarawa Independent Power Project will be developed in phases. The first phase is expected to deliver 60MW of generation capacity, with future expansion plans increasing output to between 120MW and 150MW as demand rises across the Nasarawa–Toto, Awe–Obi and Akwanga–Karu–Keffi corridors.

The company said the phased model would help match power supply with industrial demand while supporting long-term project sustainability.

Alongside electricity generation, Tetracore also plans to develop transmission and distribution infrastructure to improve power delivery to businesses and communities. Phase I of the project includes about 120 kilometres of distribution infrastructure linked to a 162-kilometre 33kV network intended to support industrial and commercial clusters across the state.

The infrastructure is expected to improve access to stable electricity and reduce dependence on diesel-powered generators, which many businesses currently rely on for daily operations.

Tetracore also announced the signing of a Head of Terms agreement with the Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency and the Nasarawa State Government to support the implementation of the state’s Gas Master Plan.

The agreement outlines a phased approach to gas infrastructure and power delivery across the state. It also aligns with the state government’s plans to position Nasarawa as an industrial and energy hub along the AKK corridor.

Speaking at the summit, Williams said combining gas infrastructure with embedded power generation would help support sectors such as mining, agro-processing and manufacturing.

He said the company’s goal is to build an energy system that supports industrial activities, creates jobs and improves energy access across Nasarawa State.

With regulatory approvals now secured and agreements signed, Tetracore is expected to begin the next stage of project execution in the state.
