In a statement on Wednesday, NAF described the C-130 Hercules as a dependable “strategic workhorse” that has, for decades, remained central to troop deployment, logistics support, combat operations, and life-saving humanitarian missions.
“The aircraft has consistently provided rapid airlift capabilities across difficult and demanding environments, enabling the military to sustain frontline operations and respond swiftly to national emergencies,” NAF said.
According to the Air Force, the aircraft has been instrumental in transporting troops, military hardware, and essential supplies to various theatres of operation, particularly in counter-insurgency campaigns and internal security operations across the country.
“Its ability to operate from austere and semi-prepared airstrips has made it a critical asset in supporting combat missions in remote and hard-to-access areas, where conventional transport systems are often limited,” it added.
The NAF noted that the strategic airlift platform also proved invaluable during Nigeria’s military engagements in regional peacekeeping missions, particularly in Liberia and Sierra Leone, where it supported Nigerian contingents through sustained airlift operations.
The C-130 has emerged as a vital humanitarian response platform, contributing significantly to disaster relief and emergency evacuation operations nationwide.
The aircraft has reportedly transported hundreds of thousands of kilograms of relief materials to communities affected by natural disasters, including flood-ravaged areas, while also assisting in the evacuation of displaced persons from inaccessible locations.
The Air Force further disclosed that the Hercules aircraft has repeatedly conducted aeromedical evacuation missions for wounded military personnel and critically ill patients, helping to save lives during emergencies and crisis situations.
It further disclosed that during national emergencies and public health crises, the aircraft remained at the forefront of rapid response operations by transporting medical personnel, equipment, and critical supplies to affected areas across the country.
The Nigerian Air Force stated that the enduring operational and humanitarian impact of the Hercules C-130 reflects its unwavering commitment to national defence, civil support operations, and the protection of lives and property.
