Caleb Ajagba, chief of staff to Alex Otti, governor of Abia State, has commended the press for being a pivotal partner in restoring sanity and order in the society.
The chief of staff stated this when he paid visit to Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists office in Umuahia.
“I want to deeply appreciate you. I am here on behalf of His Excellency to see this place. One thing that is constant in life is change,” said Ajagba.
“I have seen what has been done, but I think that we can still do more, much more. His Excellency is somebody that is very passionate about excellence”.
He said that the governor is very passionate about the welfare of the workforce and that was why one of the things he did when he came into power was to place state of emergency in these critical sectors, including the welfare of the Abia civil servants and the workforce.
He called for closer working relationship between the media and the state government, while insisting that there is no competition.
“We are supposed to collaborate, we cannot pretend to know it all. So, with your oversight function in terms of what we do, the way you look at things from different angles, I think it can really help us as a government to do better. We are going to have this engagement going forward,” the COS said.
He noted that the governor has come to set a standard in terms of good governance, hence what is happening today in Abia State, according to him, has become a model for other states.
“If you have also noticed, there is an upsurge in the number of people coming into the state. Before now, nobody even cared to know what was happening in Abia. But suddenly, even the properties have gone up. That is to tell you that good things are happening and by the time the governor completed his four years, and by God’s grace, goes for another four years, you will not even recognise this place,” he said.
He noted that the state has never gone against the media or try to stop them in doing their work, rather it wants the media to be objective.
