Obafemi Hamzat, the sitting deputy governor of Lagos State, is not just a governorship aspirant, but also a frontline contender for the highly coveted seat in the state adjudged the largest economy in West Africa.

Hamzat appears to be enjoying the blessing and goodwill of major stakeholders in Lagos politics. This was reflected in a statement by Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the state’s House of Assembly.

Obasa, who spoke when Hamzat’s consultation train visited his residence, and other party (All Progressives Congress (APC)) leaders in the state, told the large gathering that, “Hamzat’s candidature has been sealed. I have had discussions with those who matter, and the conclusion was that Hamzat will carry the banner of the party.”

Turning to Hamzat, he said, “We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure that we win the election.”

Hamzat was at Acme Road, Ogba where he met the party leaders, led by Cornelius Ojelabi, in the company of the State Working Committee. From there, he went to the residence of the Speaker, and ended at the house of Ganiyu Solomon (GOS).

Addressing the party leaders, Hamzat assured them of his plans for Lagos. According to him, the importance of Lagos in Nigeria cannot be overemphasised.

“The truth of the matter is that if Lagos fails, Nigeria will have problems, and we must not fail. We must ensure that what happened in 2023 will not happen again in 2027. We must ensure a resounding victory for our leader, President Bola Tinubu, in the next election and ensure similar victory for APC in Lagos,” the deputy governor assured

Continuing, he said, “Our opponents are trying to discredit our election, simply because they cannot win. That’s why they’re doing everything possible to condemn any good thing done by the Tinubu’s administration.”

Ojelabi assured of the party’s commitment to Hamzat’s political aspiration. “We support you, we trust you, and we are very confident of your competence and humility,” he said.

At Obasa’s residence, Musiliu Obanikoro extolled the virtues of Hamzat, saying that no sincere mind can question Hamzat’s pedigree; such a person should know that, with Hamzat, Lagos is in good hands.

“Lagos must not decline, but must grow higher and higher, and with Hamzat at the helm of affairs, Lagos will continue to soar higher and higher,” he noted.
