Troops of the joint task force, Operation Hadin Kai, have killed at least 24 Boko Haram terrorists during failed attempts to infiltrate military formations in Yobe State. The engagement occurred in the early hours of April 23, 2026, when soldiers successfully repelled a determined attack on the Kukareta location.

Sani Uba, Lieutenant-Colonel and Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force, issued a statement in Maiduguri on Thursday. He noted that the assault commenced shortly after midnight and lasted until about 3am. Vigilant troops executed a deliberate offensive-defensive action, containing the assault and forcing the terrorists into a disorderly withdrawal.

Recover significant arms cache

During the engagement, troops inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, with 24 terrorists neutralised so far. Ongoing search operations on the battlefield led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

The recovered items included 18 AK-47 rifles, three general-purpose machine guns, two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, and three RPG tubes. Soldiers also seized two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition for PKT systems.

The military recorded two personnel wounded in action, both of whom have since been stabilised. One reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage, with all tyres blown out during the engagement.
