A survey conducted by Nigerian Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has shown that the two leading political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are neck-to-neck in the December 5, 2015 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
Reading extracts from the survey to journalists, Ganiyu Koledoye, the president of NIMN, said the survey conducted between October 13-16, 2015 shows that “55 percent of the female population prefer APC while 53 percent of the male population prefer PDP”.
Those who favour APC said they want change and they want to align with government at the centre.
On why they may not vote for PDP, according to Koledoye, they based their reasons on “youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, unpaid civil servants and failure to develop the Niger Delta University”.
Those who prefer PDP based their reasons on the existence of peace now in the state and continuity of government.
On why they may not vote for APC, Koledoye said that they based their reasons on the “poor performance of the party flag bearer while in office, increase in cult activity during his tenure”.
Koledoye, who did not release the whole details of the survey or hand over the documented copy to journalists during a media chat in his office on the survey, put the sample population at 1000 in the eight local governments of the state.
On why the institute embarked on political survey to weigh the possible outcome of the election, research is the key instrument of marketing. He further said that polling which was part of the institute’s corporate social responsibility was a way of improving quality of governance and contributing to the social-economic development of the country.
