Aggrieved residents of Banire-Oludipe Streets in Surulere, Local Government Area of Lagos State, recently embarked on a peaceful protest against the deplorable services of Eko Electricity Distribution Company in the neighborhood.
Speaking with journalists, Segun Ayodele, chairman of the Banire Oludipe Street Landlords and Tenants Association (BOLSTA), accused the electricity distribution company of insensitivity to the plight of the residents.
Ayodele said: “For over eight years now, we have been suffering power outages while neighbouring streets such as Apena, Atunrase, Mabo and Fashoro enjoy regular supply of electricity. We barely have power for four hours daily.
We live in an Island of darkness, while our neighbours live in an oasis of light. The undertaking manager at Jibowu has also been hostile to our plight. We have tried everything humanly possible but to no avail.”
Corroborating Ayodele’s claim, another resident, Nwaka George lamented that the power situation in the area has affected many businesses. She said: “They collect 750 naira as service charge monthly without rendering us any service. We have suffered for too long. It is unfortunate for an organisation to be collecting money for services not rendered.”
