The Lagos Photo Festival organised by African Artists Foundation is the first and only international photography festival in Nigeria.
The Photo Festival event is a month-long festival which kicks off with the opening ceremony, featuring exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, discussions and large scale outdoor prints displayed throughout the city with the aim of reclaiming public spaces and engaging the general public with multifaceted stories of Africa.
This year’s exhibition, launched at the Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos, witnessed the presence of many art lovers and influential artists in Africa. It also features the first Mobile Phone Photography Exhibition with the award-winning celebrity photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi showcasing his work done entirely with the Huawei P8 smartphone. Amadi-Obi had earlier in the year demonstrated his unrivalled technical ability using the light painting feature exclusive to the Huawei P8.
He said he was inspired by the music of Nigeria’s afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti to produce his work. His photos were produced using light photography, which is a process of using Huawei P8 smartphone light painting feature. It’s astonishing how this smartphone can ignite one’s creativity.
Amadi-Obi said: “I’m using this work to demonstrate that creativity is about having fun when you think of stuff. Don’t think about the money just have fun and express yourself by enjoying what you do.”
The P8 smartphone is a further proof to Huawei’s dedication to bringing the latest technology to consumers, offering a world of opportunities, creating extraordinary experiences and realising dreams for people everywhere. This is achieved through the R&D centres established around the world in countries such as the United States, Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Russia, India, and China. Huawei has more than 7,000 R&D employees focused on consumer products and solutions, comprising more than 50percent of Huawei Consumer BG’s total workforce.
The Huawei stand at the festival gave visitors the chance to have firsthand interaction with Huawei’s mobile technology, perfectly embodied by the current flagship phone, the Huawei P8.
Interestingly, LagosPhoto, the parent organisation for the festival, has set one of its main objectives for this year’s event, as educating visitors about photography. The festival is therefore, a natural habitat for the famed Huawei P8 smartphone, which was the star attraction at the event.
Also, the festival used photography for the exploration of historical and contemporary issues, the sharing of cultural practices, and the promotion of social programmes. In truth, mobile photography, especially at the quality of the Huawei P8 will play an increasingly significant role in the archiving of history and contemporary culture.
Discussing with guests at the event, Olaonipekun Okunowo, senior marketing manager, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Nigeria, explained that The Huawei P8 takes beauty to the next level, striking a flawless balance of artistry and creativity.
