Ademola Lookman was on the scoresheet, but Real Sociedad beat Atletico Madrid 4-3 on penalties to win the Copa del Rey on Saturday, following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

Goalkeeper Unai Marrero proved decisive, saving two spot-kicks as Sociedad secured their fourth title.
Atletico twice came from behind in a dramatic contest. Ander Barrenetxea gave Sociedad the lead after just 14 seconds, before Ademola Lookman levelled in the 19th minute. Mikel Oyarzabal restored Sociedad’s advantage from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.

Julian Alvarez equalised late on to force extra time, but neither side could find a winner before the shootout. Pablo Marin converted the decisive penalty, blasting it into the roof of the net to seal victory.

Despite the defeat, Ademola Lookman delivered a standout performance, scoring Atletico’s first equaliser and becoming only the second Nigerian to score in a Copa del Rey final after Finidi George in 1997.

Since his reported €35 million move in February, Lookman has emerged as a key figure for Atletico, contributing across La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, as well as playing a central role in the club’s run to the final.

For Atletico, attention now shifts to Europe, where they face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled for April 29.
