BusinessDay had sighted Basheer Lado, the Presidential Liaison Officer, ( Senate) on Monday evening when he submitted the budget to the President.
He however could not say when the President will sign the budget.
“I just submitted the budget, but it is within the President’s powers to fix a date for the budget signing” he stated
It will be recalled that the National Assembly had shortly before the Easter holidays, officially passed the 2026 budget, approving a total expenditure of ₦68.323 trillion.
The budget represents a shift in spending, following lessons from the 2024, 2025 budgets.
The President had requested for an increase of ₦9.09 trillion, from yhe initial ₦58.47 trillion proposal submitted to the National Assembly in December, 2025.
The revised fiscal framework follows a formal request from the President to accommodate critical legacy commitments.
The President has said he earmarked the funds specifically to accelerate development in the transportation and health sectors, while providing essential financial boosts to the judiciary and addressing outstanding national obligations.
The 2026 budget allocates a staggering ₦32.287 trillion to Capital Projects, representing nearly half of the total expenditure.
This reinforces the administration’s focus on long term economic stimulation over consumption.
The approved 2026 fiscal plan is categorized as follows:
The health sector is set to receive ₦482.758 billion, while the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MoFI) has been allocated ₦478.600 billion.

This Legacy Budget signals a robust effort by the Federal Government to close the infrastructure gap while maintaining fiscal responsibility and institutional support.
