In this interview with BusinessDay analyst DOZIE IFEBI, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Peach Studio Works Limited, Lola Aduroja, speaks on how the company’s application helps governments to generate revenue…excerpts
What’s your name and what do you do?
My name is Lola Aduroja and I’m the Chief Marketing Officer of Peach Studio Works Limited, owners and developers of the Ojutiti Mobile Application.
What is the Ojutiti Mobile Application?
Ojutiti is a mobile/internet application developed to increase compliance with road traffic regulations and ensure that most road traffic offenders are booked and fined electronically without physically arresting them. Ojutiti is a novel revenue generating traffic application that will assist governments in managing traffic challenges in their respective domains. As revenues from oil continue to tumble and governments find it increasingly difficult to meet their obligations, it is expedient that states focus on promoting homegrown ideas that will reduce their costs while increasing their revenue and efficiency.
The mobile application, based on the proposed model, does not require any financing from government and is bound to generate revenue for government.
The interesting thing about this app is that it will not only promote efficiency in the management of traffic related challenges, it will require no financial input from government now or in the future.
Did you say the application will generate revenue without any financing from government?
Absolutely. No financing whatsoever is required from government before or during its operation. Based on the model, any state that authorizes the operation within its domain will not need to finance it. However, the biggest share of the revenue will be retained by government.
So how will the app make money?
The Ojutiti app tracks traffic offenders electronically without physically engaging them. The app works on data from automobile owners’ registration and sends a ticket to them with little or no human intervention. Payment from fines automatically translates to revenue which will be shared between the government, the app users and PSW. There are other features that make the app even more robust end to end and makes it an easy interface for the user, the violator and government. Research has shown that up to a quarter of road traffic bottlenecks in major cities across Africa are caused by road traffic violators and in addition, all roads cannot have traffic management personnel on them all of the time.
Does this mean traffic management personnel will no longer be relevant?
On the contrary, the application will be used by traffic management personnel and will make their jobs a lot easier and more rewarding. With the app, traffic management personnel can be engaged in the real management of diverse traffic scenarios. The app won’t entirely change the traffic management operations in any city or country it is deployed in but will rather enhance it and make it a lot smarter, tidier and devoid of chaos.
Is the app available for download now?
The app is 100% complete and will be launched in the various stores soon. For now, the app is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows devices which are the most popular operating systems in the country. In Africa Android has the biggest base of all general-purpose operating systems, and it remains the most popular OS based on usage. There are however plans to expand the device compatibility to cover other operating systems in use.
Which government are you currently working with on this?
At the moment, we are in talks with some governments and the relevant agencies in states and at the federal level. We have proposed the app to a number of stakeholders in government and we have received positive reviews and hopefully we will launch soon.
