The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the defection of former Kano State governor and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 poll, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to its fold, describing his entry as a major boost to its growing coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Monday by Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary, the party said Kwankwaso’s move signalled a shift in Nigeria’s political landscape and reflects increasing support for a credible alternative platform.

Kwankwaso defected to the ADC on Monday after dumping the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The ADC said Kwankwaso had also urged his supporters across the Country to join the party, a development that has already triggered a noticeable spike in registrations on its online platform within 24 hours.

The party noted that his decision underscores a broader national sentiment for change, adding that his political experience, grassroots appeal, and ability to mobilise support make him a strategic addition to its ranks.

“His entry into the ADC comes at a critical time when Nigerians are seeking leadership that understands their daily struggles and is prepared to offer practical solutions,” the statement said.

The ADC described the growing influx of new members as evidence of rising public confidence in the party’s vision.

The event was witnessed by top party figures, including ADC National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, alongside members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Also present were leading Presidential hopefuls such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Other notable attendees included former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
