The House of Representatives has approved a further extension of the implementation timeline for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act, pushing the deadline to June 30, 2026.

The decision followed the passage of a bill seeking to amend the Appropriation Act to accommodate the revised timeline. The legislation, titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Appropriation Act (Repeal and Enactment) to extend the implementation of the Capital aspect of the Appropriation Act, 2025 from 31 March, 2026 to 30 June 2026 and for Related Matters (HB.2743),” was considered and approved during plenary on Tuesday.

Lawmakers said the extension is aimed at ensuring the effective execution of capital projects by allowing more time for the full release and utilisation of funds allocated to ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

The House had in December 2025, approved a request by President Bola Tinubu to extend the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget to March 31, 2026.

Lawmakers, in December also passed the revised 2025 budget with an aggregate expenditure of N48.32 trillion. The revised 2025 framework allocates N3.64 trillion to statutory transfers, N14.31 trillion to debt service, N13.58 trillion to recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, and N16.76 trillion to capital expenditure and development fund contributions.
