Wellness and direct selling company QNET is promoting household water filtration as a practical response to Nigeria’s widening gap in access to safely managed drinking water, as the world marked World Water Day 2026.

The company said the push reflects growing concern that many Nigerian households still rely on water sources that may appear accessible but are often unsafe for daily consumption. While a large share of the population can reach basic water sources, far fewer have water that meets safe drinking standards, especially in rural and peri-urban communities.

Global data from the World Health Organization and UNICEF show that about 2.2 billion people worldwide still lack safely managed drinking water services, while roughly 115 million people depend directly on untreated surface water. In Nigeria, access remains uneven, with estimates suggesting that only about one in five people has safely managed drinking water despite broader access to basic sources.

Ayokunmi Solesi, general manager of QNET in Nigeria, said the situation highlights the need for solutions closer to the household level, where families make daily decisions about water use and health.

“Water safety is not only a public health issue; it is an everyday quality-of-life issue,” Solesi said, noting that reliable access to cleaner drinking water can support better health outcomes and reduce risks linked to contaminated supply.

The company is highlighting its filtration system, the HomePure Nova, which is designed to improve water quality at the point of use through a multi-stage filtration process aimed at reducing common impurities found in drinking water.

The push comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with water infrastructure challenges, rapid urbanisation and population growth, factors analysts say have strained public supply systems and increased reliance on boreholes, water vendors and other informal sources whose quality can vary.

Public health experts often note that unsafe water contributes to waterborne diseases and places additional burdens on households, particularly women, who in many communities are responsible for sourcing water and managing household care. This link is reflected in this year’s World Water Day theme, “Water and Gender,” which focuses on how water access intersects with social roles and wellbeing.

QNET said its broader wellness strategy in Nigeria is built around preventive living and everyday health choices, with water safety forming a central part of that message. The company said it is increasing awareness through product education, stakeholder engagement and community conversations around healthier home environments.

Beyond water filtration, the firm offers other wellness-related products, including solutions under the Amezcua line, nutritional supplements such as EDG3 Plus and oral care products like ProSpark, as it expands its footprint in Nigeria’s growing consumer health and lifestyle market.

Interest in household-level solutions such as filtration systems may continue to rise as Nigerians seek more reliable alternatives to inconsistent public supply. However, they note that long-term improvements will still depend on broader investment in water infrastructure and stronger public health systems.

For QNET, the company said the focus remains on practical solutions that households can adopt immediately. As Solesi put it, safer water at home can help improve daily life, reduce health risks and strengthen resilience for families navigating Nigeria’s ongoing water access challenges.
