Palpable fear gripped farmers in Yonov and Nenzev Council Wards of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, fleeing in droves following an attack by armed men suspected to be marauding herdsmen, killing four, injuring scores while many are still missing.

A community elder, Joseph Anawa, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the attackers, who were coming from neighbouring communities, invaded seven out of the 10 Council Wards in the process.

Anawa said, “The armed herdsmen who were moving out of Tombo Council Ward, in Logo LG on Sunday due to the intensity of the border clearance operations launched by joint security forces, in the process attacked some communities and villages in Yonov and Nenzev Council Wards.”

According to them “the situation has created tension, apprehension and fear, leading to the mass exodus of farners in the two Council Wards to more safer communities”

“In Yonov Council Ward, at about 15:00 hours, they attacked some villages in Mbamar clan and killed one Atume Adudu and Orndii, a relation of the Kindred head of Yonov, Chief Abuur Orndii, while many people were injured, and others still missing”

“In Nenzev Council Ward, at about 21:00 hours, another group of the same Fulani bandits attacked Tse Kyegh village, killed Aondona Ayegh and Ahongur Toho”.

He appealed to the State Government to deploy more security operatives to monitor the movement of the terrorists and take quick measures to dislodge those marauders from further attacks.

Corroborating what Anawa said, a resident who, identified himself as Faakaa, in a statement said, “herders have ransacked farmers from seven out of the ten Council Wards we have in Logo LG, as the onset of the farming season.

According to Faakaa, “while farmers have started clearing land in preparation for the 2026 farming season, the people of Nenzev, Yonov, Turan, Mbater, Tombo, Mbagber, and Ukemberagy/Tswarev Wards are on the run.

“We are appealing to the State Government to deploy more security in the affected areas to nib this threats to life in the bud, our people have continue to live in constant fear day by day.”

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Udeme Edet failed as he was neither picking, returning calls, nor replying text messages sent to her.
