The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has amended its constitution as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, introducing key reforms aimed at strengthening internal democracy, inclusiveness and party administration.

Chairman of the ADC Constitution Review Committee, Etigwe Uwa (SAN), presented the report to the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the committee focused on critical areas, including internal democracy, digital membership in line with provisions of the amended Electoral Act, party discipline and efficient administration.

Uwa noted that the revised document also reflects emerging realities within Nigeria’s political space and seeks to provide a model framework for other parties.

According to him, the committee proposed affirmative action measures, including 30 per cent representation for women and 20 per cent for youths, alongside provisions for the inclusion of persons living with disabilities.

He added that the review streamlined certain party offices while introducing transitional measures to accommodate the party’s current stage as a growing political coalition.

Uwa further disclosed that a robust arbitration mechanism had been incorporated to address internal disputes and reduce litigation and defections.

He emphasised the importance of adaptability, noting that the revised constitution elevates the role of technology and encourages the inclusion of professionals with proven leadership experience to enhance innovation and organisational efficiency.

Receiving the report on behalf of the National Chairman, the party’s National Legal Adviser said the committee would carefully study the recommendations and ensure their implementation in the overall interest of the party and its members.
