The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 in its efforts to strengthen performance, service delivery and climate resilience across the country.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday following the official launch of the plan in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Charles Anosike, Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative with the World Meteorological Organisation, said the new plan reflects the agency’s long-standing role in safeguarding lives and property for more than 140 years.

“Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is implementing a comprehensive Strategic Plan (2026–2030) as a performance management roadmap to align its weather and climate services with Nigeria’s national vision.

“As it operationalises this plan, NiMet is set to become the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully institutionalise this world-class system across five pillars: Employee Growth and Development, Strategic Partnerships, Technology and Innovation, Quality Service Delivery, and Revenue Diversification”, Anosike said.

According to the statement, the launch also highlighted NiMet’s performance under the Federal Government’s results-driven governance framework coordinated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU).

The unit was institutionalised at the beginning of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu alongside the appointment of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to strengthen performance monitoring across Ministries, Departments and Agencies through a Presidential Performance Bond and results-based budgeting system.

Also speaking, Kayode Sufianu, Managing Consultant/Chief Executive Officer of Balanced Scorecard West Africa (BSWA), commended NiMet for adopting the Balanced Scorecard as its strategic management framework.

He lauded the leadership of the Director-General, noting that the commitment of senior management and the Balanced Scorecard Champions Team played a crucial role in developing the strategy.

Sufianu explained that the framework enables organisations to translate strategy into measurable outcomes across key areas, including stakeholders, financial stewardship, internal processes and organisational capacity.

As part of the rollout, the NiMet boss also unveiled the agency’s refreshed core values under the acronym I-PACE — Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment and Excellence, which will guide the implementation of the new strategic plan.

The agency noted that the initiative is expected to reposition NiMet to deliver more efficient, innovative and responsive weather and climate services in line with national development priorities.
