Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, on Tuesday, inaugurated a 14-member advisory committee on the establishment of State Police in Plateau State as part of efforts to strengthen the security architecture of the State.
Speaking at the inauguration in Jos, the governor said the Committee would review the concept of State Police within Nigeria’s federal structure and provide recommendations that would contribute to ongoing national discussions on security reforms.
Mutfwang explained that the move followed the recent declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the need to deepen and strengthen Nigeria’s internal security framework through reforms aimed at improving effective policing across the country.
“The committee is expected to undertake a comprehensive review of the concept of State Police within Nigeria’s federal structure and provide well-informed recommendations that will meaningfully contribute to ongoing national policy deliberations on the subject,” the governor said.
