…Says no opposition in FCT, states

Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has charged members of the party’s National Central Coordinating Committee to ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible national convention.

Yilwatda gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating the committee ahead of the APC National Convention scheduled for March.

He described the convention as more than a routine gathering, saying it represents a reaffirmation of the party’s democratic values and organisational strength.

“A convention like ours is not merely a gathering; it is an affirmation of our democratic values, a celebration of our internal democracy, and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised and viable political platform in the country,” he said.

The APC chairman pointed to recent electoral successes as evidence of the party’s dominance, citing victories in by-elections and local council polls, including gains recorded in the Federal Capital Territory and other states.

According to him, the results underscore the party’s grassroots strength and capacity to win elections nationwide.

Yilwatda expressed confidence in the leadership of the committee, chaired by former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, noting that his experience, integrity and understanding of party administration would be invaluable to the assignment.

“You have been selected because of your integrity, experience and commitment to the ideals of our party. I expect nothing short of excellence from each of you,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Masari pledged that the committee would discharge its mandate with fairness, discipline and commitment to party unity.

He acknowledged the calibre of members serving on the committee, including former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma,;Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, among other APC governors and party bigwigs.

Masari described a national convention as a defining moment in the life of any political party, stressing that the exercise must reflect orderliness, transparency, inclusiveness and respect for internal democracy.

“The task before us is clear, to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible and successful national convention,” he said.
