Valentine’s Day has emerged as the busiest ride-hailing day in Nigeria so far in 2026, according to internal data released by Bolt.

The firm stated that February 14 recorded the highest volume of ride requests and completed trips nationwide this year, reflecting the growing influence of social occasions on urban transportation patterns.

Demand surged across major cities, including Lagos and Abuja, with activity peaking from late afternoon into the evening.

Bolt’s data shows that most trips were linked to social and leisure activities, particularly visits to restaurants, entertainment centres and private gatherings.

Short intra-city rides dominated requests, indicating that users relied heavily on ride-hailing services for time-sensitive celebrations.

The company noted that many riders chose not to drive themselves due to traffic congestion, limited parking availability and safety concerns associated with late-night travel.
Instead, ride-hailing services were used as a reliable alternative to ensure punctual arrivals for scheduled outings.

For drivers, the spike in demand resulted in higher trip volumes and reduced idle time. Many drivers experienced consecutive ride requests throughout the evening and extended their online hours to take advantage of increased activity.

The Valentine’s Day surge highlights a broader behavioural shift, with culturally significant single-day events now generating ride volumes comparable to major holiday periods.

Bolt said the data illustrates how on-demand mobility services are increasingly embedded in lifestyle planning, helping users navigate logistical challenges and support social engagements across Nigeria’s busiest cities.
