Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected terrorist enclave in a major forest offensive conducted under Operation IGBO IDANU I, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition and destroying the camp.
The operation, which targeted a network linked to suspected kingpins Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, marked a significant escalation in ongoing military efforts to flush out armed groups operating in difficult terrains.
Military sources said on Wednesday, that the troops advanced through thick forest, marshy ground and riverine obstacles to reach the hideout. Despite movement constraints caused by fallen trees and swampy terrain, the soldiers pushed forward on foot in a bid to maintain the element of surprise.

The operation was led by the Commander of 12 Brigade, Kasim Umar Sidi, who coordinated the ground assault. By dismounting and advancing stealthily, the troops penetrated deep into the enclave, forcing the occupants to flee.
Although the suspects escaped upon sighting the advancing soldiers, a sweep of the camp led to the recovery of eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition, each containing 250-round bandoliers, as well as a box of high-velocity grenades. Military authorities said the seizure has significantly weakened the group’s logistics capacity and operational strength.
After clearing the area, the troops destroyed and set the camp ablaze to prevent its reuse. Security forces have since intensified patrols across the general area to track fleeing elements and prevent any attempt at regrouping.
The latest breakthrough underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed push to dismantle armed networks and reclaim forested enclaves that have served as safe havens for criminal elements.
Operation IGBO IDANU I forms part of broader counter-terrorism and anti-banditry campaigns aimed at restoring stability in affected communities. Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive actions until all identified hideouts are neutralised and lasting security is achieved.
