The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has strengthened its operational capability with the reactivation and commissioning of a Super Puma helicopter, NAF 565, at the 205 Rotary Wing, Ikeja, Lagos.

Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), described the return of the Super Puma to active service as a clear demonstration of the NAF’s resolve to sustain decisive airpower in defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and internal security.

“This occasion is not merely about the return of an aircraft to our fleet, but a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force,” Aneke said.

He noted that restoring legacy platforms remains a critical pillar of the Air Force’s strategy to strengthen national security and maintain operational effectiveness across multiple theatres.

The CAS expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, for his consistent support for airpower development, stressing that the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda is translating into tangible gains for the Nigerian Air Force.

According to him, ongoing investments in strategic acquisitions and the reactivation of critical assets are ensuring that the Service remains prepared to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities.

Aneke highlighted the operational value of the Super Puma helicopter, describing it as one of the most versatile rotary-wing platforms in the NAF inventory.

He said the aircraft plays a crucial role in troop lift, casualty evacuation, search and rescue missions, and logistics support.

“The Super Puma is a workhorse whose role is second to none in the Nigerian Air Force,” he stated, adding that the platform has previously proven its effectiveness in Operation Hadin Kai and other joint military operations.

He noted that its return to service would significantly enhance maritime security operations around Lagos and contribute to ongoing counterinsurgency and anti-banditry efforts nationwide.

The CAS praised T.A. Badru, the consultant, retired Air Commodore as well as the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command and the technical personnel of 205 Rotary Wing, for their professionalism, dedication and resilience.

He charged aircrew and maintenance personnel to uphold the highest standards of safety, discipline and aircraft maintenance.

“Let it reflect our strong culture of airmanship, maintenance and pride,” he said, emphasizing that sustained mission readiness depends on accountability and strict adherence to safety procedures.

He also acknowledged the support of the National Assembly, noting that strong inter-institutional cooperation remains vital to sustaining the Air Force’s operational momentum.

Later, during a durbar with officers, airmen and airwomen of collocated units at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, the CAS reflected on his first 100 days in office, highlighting measurable improvements in operational tempo and aircraft serviceability.

He attributed these gains to improved coordination between logistics and operational planning.

Aneke also disclosed that the NAF is fast-tracking the induction of advanced combat platforms to further strengthen its strike capabilities.

“These state-of-the-art platforms will provide us with unprecedented precision strike capabilities and enhance regional deterrence,” he assured, reaffirming that sustained modernization remains a top priority.

On personnel welfare, the CAS reiterated that the well-being of NAF personnel is inseparable from operational effectiveness.

While acknowledging that several accommodation projects were initiated by his predecessor, he pledged to accelerate their completion to address housing shortfalls.

Guided by the principle of “Welfare for Enhanced Warfare,” he assured personnel of continued improvements in allowances, medical support and overall working conditions.

He urged officers and men of the Service to remain disciplined, innovative and mission-focused as operations intensify across the country, reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to justifying the confidence reposed in it by the Federal Government and the Nigerian people.
