Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has commended the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its sustained humanitarian interventions aimed at saving lives and supporting vulnerable populations across the state.

Buni gave the commendation on Wednesday while receiving the newly appointed Head of the Nigeria Delegation of the ICRC, Doris El-Doeihy, who paid him a courtesy and familiarisation visit at the Government House, Damaturu.

Represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, stressing that the Yobe State Government remains resolute in providing relief, protection, and long-term solutions for vulnerable and displaced persons.

“We have continued to collaborate with various governmental and non-governmental organisations in our quest to provide timely relief and sustainable support to displaced and vulnerable communities across the state,” he said.

Buni disclosed that the state has established a State Policy Advisory Committee on Durable Solutions, mandated to provide strategic oversight for the implementation of the multi-year State Action Plan on Durable Solutions.

He further underscored the government’s commitment with concrete action, revealing that over 15 per cent of the 2026 state budget has been earmarked specifically for durable solutions-focused interventions.

The Governor assured the ICRC delegation of the state government’s continued support, pledging to provide an enabling environment for the organisation and other development partners to operate collaboratively, transparently, and effectively.

He described the visit as timely and a clear demonstration of the ICRC’s commitment to partnership, humanitarian service, and the well-being of affected communities in Yobe State.

Earlier in her remarks, the Head of the Delegation, Mrs Doris El-Doeihy, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration and familiarising the new leadership with ongoing humanitarian efforts in the state.

She commended the Yobe State Government for its strong political will, strategic planning, and sustained partnerships, particularly in the implementation of the State Action Plan on Durable Solutions.

El-Doeihy disclosed that the ICRC team had earlier visited Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area, where several priority humanitarian needs were identified for immediate consideration and assistance.

She noted that the ICRC remains committed to protecting the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence, while delivering critical humanitarian assistance to affected populations.

She also solicited continued collaboration with the Yobe State Government to ensure that humanitarian support reaches communities where it is most urgently needed.
