Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has named Precious Onwusobalu as the first recipient of the Summer Okibe Prize, a new academic award established to support female students in the Faculty of Law.
Onwusobalu graduated with a 4.6 CGPA and received the N500,000 prize for her academic record, student leadership, and commitment to the study of law. The award was presented on behalf of the founder, Summer Okibe, by Professor Reverend Sister Anne Amuche Obiorah.
The Summer Okibe Prize was endowed by Okibe, an alumna of COOU and a lawyer working in environmental and regulatory practice, with a focus on climate and sustainability issues. Launched in 2025, the prize will be awarded annually for five years to the best graduating female law student at the university.
The Faculty of Law said the initiative is designed to encourage focus, consistency, and academic effort among female students, while also recognising achievement at the point of graduation. It added that the prize reflects the university’s role in preparing graduates for careers within the legal profession.
The Summer Okibe Prize signals continued private support for legal education and women’s participation in the profession.
Summer Okibe’s work and initiatives can be followed on LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and Instagram.
