A passenger aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew, identified as a Qatar Airways plane, made a safe emergency landing at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Thursday, after suffering technical issues while airborne.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received distress alerts and made emergency response plans, coordinating with other agencies to ensure a safe outcome.

According to preliminary reports, the aircraft, carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members, was forced to make an emergency landing due to technical problems.

According to a release by LASEMA, the pilot, with the support of the emergency responders, executed a safe landing on the runway, and all occupants were evacuated without injuries or loss of life.

Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary,  confirmed that the agency’s response teams, along with other emergency responders, were on high alert and stood by during the landing.

“The collaborative efforts of the multi-agency responders were coordinated, and after proper checks, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and repairs,” he said.

The incident did not result in any significant damage to the aircraft, and recovery activities have been completed. LASEMA has also concluded the rescue operation, and the aircraft has been secured on the apron.
