The All Progressives Congress (APC) has informed of the decision to keep its position on the ongoing trial of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki before the code of conduct tribunal, secret.

Many have questioned the deafening silence of the APC on the ongoing trial of the Senate president, a position some political pundits have described as a “bad way to treat a party man.”

“We’ve always known APC to rise to the defence of the president anytime he’s being criticised or attacked by the PDP. For the party to keep mute on Saraki’s issue, whom himself is also a party man, leaves more to desire of some invisible hands who want to pull the man (Saraki) down at all cost for emerging the Senate president against their wish,” a member of the APC said under the condition of anonymity.

Saraki’s prosecution as argued by some of his supporters was premised on him not respecting the party’s position on the sharing formula adopted by the party during the selection of the principal officers of the eighth legislative assembly.

While responding, Lai Mohammed, APC national publicity secretary, in a telephone chat with BusinessDay, informed that what ever position the party was going to take on the prosecution of the Senate president would not be made known to the public.

“What ever is going to be our position (on Saraki’s trial) will not be made public,” Muhammed said

When asked on what he feels the ongoing trial of Saraki portends to the image of the party, Mohammed declined comments with the apt response “I don’t know” before the line went off.

Saraki is answering charges for alleged offences ranging from anticipatory declaration of assets, false declaration of assets in forms he filed before the Code of Conduct Bureau while he was governor of Kwara State.

Saraki is also charged for alleged failure to declare some assets he acquired while in office as governor between 2003 and 2011. He is also answering questions on illegal operation of foreign accounts while being a public officer as a governor and senator.
