Police operatives attached to the Mararaba ‘A’ Division of the Nasarawa State Command have foiled an armed robbery operation and recovered a locally fabricated beretta pistol during an early-morning intervention in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at about 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday following a distress call that suspected armed robbers had attacked a wine shop along Calvary Road, Mararaba, leaving one person injured in the process.

In a statement by Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, made available to journalists on Wednesday in Jos, said the operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene and disrupted the robbery, forcing the suspects—said to be about four in number—to flee on sighting the police patrol team.

“Upon swift response to the scene, the police operatives disrupted the robbery operation, forcing the criminals to flee in disarray upon sighting the police,” the statement said.

“In the process, the suspects abandoned a locally fabricated beretta pistol, which was recovered by the police,” the release added.

The police command also reassured residents of Nasarawa State of its resolve to sustain proactive policing and combat all forms of crime and criminality, urging members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and useful information.
