Obasi Ekeagbara, chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Imo/Abia chapter, has decried the non-functioning of industries in Nigeria in their full capacities, while also offering solutions.

Ekeagbara spoke recently while delivering a message during the 38th Annual General Meeting of the chapter held at Golden Tulip Hotel, Owerri, Imo State.

Obasi lamented over high inflation in the country, which noted is driven by costs, saying further that it has reduced the consumers’ purchasing power as well as impacting negatively on sales volume.

He said that the unstable exchange rates have affected production costs and investors’ confidence.

While saying that getting qualified workers for both entry level and specialised roles have remained a big challenge, he disclosed that limited access to reliable power and transportation have further hindered manufacturing efficiency.

He has advised that Nigeria should position itself as an export hub with the government support for trade agreements and export incentives, while calling for a young workforce that will help to provide a competitive advantage in the manufacturing sector.

Obasi said that the provision of good roads and rail lines for movement of raw materials and finished goods, and affordable electricity to boost manufacturing will make local production competitive.

He also noted that technological advancements like automation, robotics and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance product quality.

The chairman stated further that Nigeria should embrace global innovations and sustainable practices to position itself as a competitive player in the global manufacturing landscape.
