Former Zimbabwe international footballer Tendai Ndoro has died at the age of 40 after being found at his home in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Reports indicate he had been battling a long-term illness.

Ndoro earned 14 caps for Zimbabwe between 2013 and 2017, scoring five goals, including one against Tunisia at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

At club level, he enjoyed spells with Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, and Highlands Park in South Africa, while also playing abroad in Saudi Arabia for Al-Faisaly and in Oman with Al-Orouba.

His most prolific period came at Orlando Pirates, where he scored 25 goals in 48 league appearances between 2015 and 2017, cementing his status as a fan favourite.

Tributes have poured in from his former clubs and supporters. Orlando Pirates said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former striker Tendai Ndoro.”

The club extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Cape Town Spurs, formerly Ajax Cape Town, also expressed their sorrow, “We are saddened by the passing of former Ajax Cape Town player Tendai Ndoro. Our heartfelt condolences go to Tendai’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.”

Ndoro’s death has left a void in Zimbabwean and South African football, with many fans remembering him as a gifted forward who brought excitement to every game he played.
