Nigerians and indeed, Africans have been urged to embrace fitness culture in order to promote their health.

Folusho Ogunwale, Founder and CEO of i-Fitness, gave the advice at the Beyond Activ Conference held recently in Saudi Arabia.

Ogunwale, who was the guest speaker at the Conference, also called for concerted efforts to transform the fitness industry in Nigeria and across Africa.

“True fitness is grounded in community. By providing accessible fitness solutions, we can nurture a healthier society,” he said.

Addressing a diverse audience of stakeholders in health, wellness, hospitality, sports and leisure for collaborative business growth, he noted the obstacles hindering the growth of fitness enterprises in Nigeria, such as inadequate infrastructure and fierce market competition.

“Fitness in Nigeria transcends mere aesthetics; it embodies community well-being and an unwavering commitment to resource development and education,” Ogunwale said.

He underscored the importance of creating engaging and supportive environments that empower individuals to prioritise their health and well-being, emphasising that fitness should not merely be about physical appearance but should encompass a holistic approach to wellness that integrates community support, social wellbeing and educational initiatives.

“The commitment to health and wellness is a global journey that begins at home yet knows no boundaries. The potential for growth and innovation in Africa’s fitness industry is immense, and i-Fitness continues to upscale”, he said.
