Women in Business: Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode

Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode is a development specialist, international NGO expert, entrepreneur, author, philanthropist and human rights activist specialising in women and girls issues and initiatives. She is a highly sought after speaker and advisor on social impact and corporate social responsibility with a deep expertise in Africa-related women and girls initiatives.

She is the founder and CEO of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF). MMF is dedicated to improving the quality of life of Africans. The Foundation specifically focuses on engendering self-reliance and fulfillment by working tirelessly on policy and advocacy for issues that impact on ethics, equity, good governance and economic empowerment, encouraging business development, education and providing medium term disaster relief.

Since 2014, the MMF has partnered with Cherie Blair Foundation in a program that draws mentees and mentors from over 50 countries. Aisha Oyebode is a co-convener of the ongoing Bring Back Our Girls Movement, she drives the group’s activities in Lagos, South West Nigeria.

Oyebode is the Group CEO of Asset Management Group Limited (AMG), a company founded in 1991, specialising in real estate development and management, offering real estate across the spectrum. AMG facilitated the building of the first mall in Nigeria, the Palms Mall.

She recently became the board Chairperson at Lekoil Limited, an AIM listed company of the London Stock Exchange with focus on oil exploration in the African region. She is also a director of Cambridge Growth Partners, a co-owner of BoConcept Nigeria, Pandora Nigeria and several international retail brands.

Aisha is a member of the Women Leadership Board of the Harvard Kennedy School-Women and Public Policy Program, an advisor and country expert to the University of Pennsylvania Law Global Women’s Leadership Project. She is an advisor to the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).

Aisha Oyebode has an LLM in Public International Law from King’s College, University of London and an MBA in Finance (Distinction) from Imperial College, University of London.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and acquired several years’ practical experience in corporate and litigation matters having worked in an international law firm.

She has served in prestigious banks and other financial institutions in Europe and the United States gaining specialist expertise in new ventures, business re-engineering, management and operation audits, business and financial linkages.

She has developed business advisory skills gained from her diverse work experience as well as a strong passion for humanitarian concerns. As a result of her passion about developmental issues, she utilizes her skills in contributing to the political and economic development of Nigeria.

She serves as a member of various boards including Murtala Muhammed Memorial Botanical Gardens (3MBG), the Federal Government Privatisation Policy and Monitoring Committee and Editorial Board of the Daily Times.
