As Group Legal Counsel at Sahara Group, she was appointed as the first general counsel of the conglomerate and effectively developed the legal department which is now one of Nigeria’s leading conglomerates.

She also actively participated in the company’s diversification into upstream oil and gas, which led to the winning of 2 oil blocks and entering into several energy joint ventures.

Furthermore, at Sahara, Olayemi assisted in the development of several other business lines including aviation and real estate.

She has skills and expertise in legal counsel, mergers and acquisitions, energy and natural resources, financial and corporate law, structured finance and derivatives, transaction structuring, Islamic finance, strategic corporate governance and private equity.

She advised on the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Series I, II & III multi billion naira domestic Sukuk issuance, Guinness Nigeria PLC’s N10bn commercial paper issuance and Nova Merchant Bank’s N50bn bond programme, amongst others.

Olayemi obtained her LLB from University of Ibadan and Master’s degree (LLM) in corporate and commercial law at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. She went to Cambridge as a Chevening Scholar and whilst there, became a Pegasus Scholar of the Inner Temple.
