Lagos prepares for World speech Day 2018

Lagos, is getting set as speakers, students, and speech enthusiasts  will gather to mark 2018 World Speech Day on March 15.

 

World Speech Day takes place annually on 15th March, celebrating “speeches and speech making through live speaking events across the world”.

 

Launched at the Athens Democracy Forum in 2015; the first World Speech Day took place on 15th March 2016, with memorable events in Athens, Singapore, Tawau and Moscow.

 

In a statement made available to BusinessDay, Florence Atunwa Olumodimu social entrepreneur and founder Life Developers Network, said this year’s event titled, “For A Better Nigeria – For A Better World” is designed to help students into becoming better speakers and future leaders.
“We decided to take the power of speeches to schools, to acheive that a campaign was launched using social media to ask residents of Lagos to nominate 4 schools, which would benefit from free public speaking and leadership skills training.”
According to her the campaign created excitement and at the end of it all four schools emerged to benefit from the World Speech Day Schools Outreach Initiative: Temple School in Ikeja; Vivian Fowler Memorial College in Oregun; Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School Yaba and the Childville Senior School Ogudu.
“The event which will hold in Ikeja, will be bringing together both students and 35 professionals  from all works of life in a single platform to deliver a seven minutes speech 35 Speakers, including the youngest Counsellor in Lagos, Ayotunde Adenuga and member Lagos State House of Assembly Segun Olulade.

 

She further explained the event which will hold from 10-3pm and streamed live across various social platforms, ” we believe everyone has ideas and everyone can have a voice on World Speech Day, the goal is to reach out to unexpected voices everywhere in the world.”
